Music 4123 - Structural Analysis Seminar
Winter 2007 Seminar Procedure:

Most seminars will require a pre-reading assignment and some preliminary analytical work on the scheduled piece(s). The seminars will feature group discussion and analysis instead of traditional lectures. Students are expected to be prepared to participate fully in the seminar activities. There will be no tests or examinations. There is no required textbook; articles, books, scores and recordings will be available for download or will be held on reserve in the library. Grading:

Grades will be assigned on a contract basis. Each grade level will correspond to the successful completion of specified projects or activities.

D grade: Attendance, preparation, and participation during seminars.
C grade: Above plus 2 article reviews and 1 article presentation.
B grade: Above plus analysis presentation.
A grade: Above plus analysis term paper (minimum 10 pages plus figures and diagrams).

Specific gradations of each letter grade will depend on the quality of the completed assignments. For example, a consistent C average on the reviews and presentations (but no term paper) and adequate seminar participation would result in a B minus.

Office Hours:

I will be available to meet with students Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30-2:20 in Dr. Charke’s Office.
